Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 5, 2026

Short version:Your PDFs stay on your device. We don't see them, don't store them, and don't need an account. The only exception is OCR for scanned PDFs.

What this policy covers

This policy explains what information edit-pdf.org collects when you use the website at edit-pdf.org and how we use it.

Files you edit

When you open a PDF in our editor, the file is loaded directly into your browser. It is not uploaded to our servers. All editing — text changes, annotations, signatures, form fields, stamps — happens locally on your device. The edited PDF is generated in your browser and downloaded straight to your computer.

We have no copy of your file at any point.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

If a PDF has no selectable text (for example, a scan), we offer to run OCR so you can edit it. This is the one exception to the local-only rule.

When OCR runs, page images are sent to Google Cloud OCR for text recognition. Google processes the request and returns the recognized text. We do not store the page images or the OCR results on our servers after the response is returned to your browser.

Google's data handling is governed by their own privacy terms. See the Google Cloud data usage policy.

Information we collect

We do not require an account to use the editor. We may collect the following limited information:

  • Server logs: Standard request logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) kept by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.
  • Anonymous usage analytics: Aggregate page-view counts to understand which features are used. No personal identifiers are collected.
  • Contact correspondence: If you email us, we keep the message so we can reply.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data.
  • We don't use third-party advertising trackers.
  • We don't require an account or email for the free editor.
  • We don't retain your PDFs.

Cookies

edit-pdf.org uses minimal cookies: a session cookie if you sign up for Pro, and basic analytics cookies. We do not use cookies for cross-site tracking or advertising.

Children's privacy

The service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.
